Nautilus

The Nautilus carries a case whose sides are drawn like a ship’s porthole: two rounded shoulders, a bezel with softened corners and a crown that sits inside the flank rather than on top of it. In this collection the line is represented by two references. One is a 40 mm rose gold watch with a brown sunburst dial carrying four separate reads; the other is a 40 mm white gold watch with a blue dial and three registers for the calendar. Both are shown on a horizontally embossed dial surface, and the straps or bracelets fitted in the photographs are stated on each page rather than assumed.

Ribbed brown dial straight on inside the gold-toned porthole case of a Nautilus, with a reserve sector high on the left and a small-seconds register beside a moon-phase aperture below, on a brown strap
  • Case shape Porthole construction: rounded shoulders, a bezel with softened corners and a crown recessed into the case flank.
  • Sizes shown 40 mm across, measured from 10 to 4 o’clock; the rose gold reference is 8.52 mm high and the white gold perpetual calendar is 8.42 mm high.
  • Dial surface Horizontally embossed ribbing across the dial, carrying either four separate reads or three calendar registers depending on the reference.
  • What the pages state Visible layout and colour from the photographs, plus the reference’s published design data; the movement fitted, the metal of the piece and the strap supplied are inquiry items.

Design notes

What defines the Nautilus

One case, two different jobs on the dial

A Nautilus dial is not one design with variations. The rose gold 5712/1R-001 spreads its information asymmetrically, with a reserve sector high on one side, small seconds and the moon phase low on the other, and the date read by a hand against numerals printed around the edge. The white gold 5740/1G-001 keeps everything symmetrical, splitting day, date, month, leap year and the moon phase across three registers at three, six and nine. Which one suits you is a question about which read you actually use, not about which is more complicated. Both pages show the layout in the frames, and the specification tables name the reference each figure comes from.

Comparing a Nautilus against another Nautilus

Two Nautilus references can sit within half a millimetre of each other in size and still feel different, because the thickness, the metal and what is fitted to the watch change how it sits and how it looks. When two references are close, the useful comparison is between the actual pieces: the same three photographs, taken in the same light, at the same angle. Model reference, case size and the visible configuration are on each watch page; price, availability, shipping to your country and the strap or bracelet actually supplied are confirmed in the WhatsApp conversation.

These notes describe the design as it appears in the photographs on this site. Movement, water resistance, weight and material composition are not stated here, because those belong to the specific unit being offered and are confirmed in the conversation before anything is paid.
